The attic or roof deck is an impactful place to start, as it offers the largest energy savings. Exterior walls also play a critical role, helping control thermal bridging and preventing condensation inside wall cavities. Floors over unconditioned spaces, such as garages or porches, should be sealed first to block drafts before adding insulation. Crawlspaces benefit greatly from being encapsulated and conditioned, with wall insulation and a sealed vapor barrier keeping humid air and pests out.
